A customer called in the other day hoping to get a material recommendation for his application. The material had to be a Polycarbonate that was RoHS compliant for use in Electrical Applications and available in North America. While it seemed that there might be endless possibilities given these specifications, I was able to help him quickly locate one material that fit his needs perfectly using the Prospector search tools.
Prospector houses over 74277
materials, but using the Property Search we were able to select a single resin from that list in a matter of minutes. Here's how:
- We began by selecting PC (polycarbonate) from the list of generic families which returned 3,900 materials.
- Then we were able to select only those materials that were RoHS compliant from the agency rating list.
- The next step in narrowing down the search was to select a use for the resin; in this case the customer needed it for electrical applications.
- With a very manageable list of 14 materials available in several different countries and from two different companies, we cross referenced it against the final customer stipulation: he wanted only those materials available in North America.
- This last criterion returned one material from the database, Lexan EXCP0001.
Having located the correct material I informed the customer what form the material was available in (pellets) and give him the manufacturer’s contact information (in most cases, Prospector also lists the contact information for Distributors too).
Starting with over
74277
materials and a few specifications I was able to help the customer find the best material for his application within 5 minutes all through the power of Prospector.
