Plastics Design Principles: Theory and Concepts

Jay Shoemaker, Moldflow CorporationJay Shoemaker graduated from Western Michigan University in December 1983 with a BS in Manufacturing. In May 1984, he joined Moldflow Corporation in Kalamazoo, MI. He has held several positions within the company, including Design Engineer, Customer Services Engineer, and Senior Technical Instructor and Designer, his current role. Jay's primary responsibility is to develop technical training material and deliver training classes for Moldflow Plastics Insight (MPI) products.

Since 1995 Jay has been an Assistant Adjunct Professor at Western Michigan University in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering. In this role, he assists with a plastic tooling design class and with funded research in the area of injection mold tooling and processing.

Jay was on the board of directors of the Western Michigan section of the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) from 1986 to 1997.

In 2009 Moldflow was acquired by Autodesk and Jay is now with Autodesk.

Jay has co-authored and presented 16 papers on education and the application of Moldflow products for various SPE publications and trade show events. He is also the editor of the 2006 edition of the Moldflow Design Guide.
