Corona Resistance - A current
passing through a conductor induces a surrounding electrostatic
field. When voids exist in the insulation near the conductor,
the high voltage electrostatic field may ionize and
rapidly accelerate some of the air molecules, ionizing
them, and thereby "eating" a hole in the insulation.
Resistance to this process is called corona resistance.
