Product Description
Polybutene-1 PB1710A grade resin is a semi-crystalline (45%) low ethylene content random copolymer which is miscible with polypropylenes due to its similar molecular structure. In blends with polyethylenes it is immiscible but easily dispersible.
It is mainly used in the packaging industry primarily as a minor additive in a polyethylene peel seal layer for the production of coextruded flexible film or more rigid sheet. Varying the concentration of polybutene-1 PB1710A grade resin in the peel seal layer offers the unique possibility of tailoring the peel seal strength for controlled easy-opening of peelable plastic packaging.
This grade has similar performance characteristics to polybutene-1 PB8640 grade resin, except that it is formulated with a typical concentration of anti-block additive. It may therefore be used as an alternative to polybutene-1 grade PB8640 when anti-block performance of the peel seal layer needs to be enhanced. Like polybutene-1 grade PB8640, this grade is particularly suitable for use in blown film formulations when low heat seal initiation temperatures are required. A typical blend partner for polybutene-1 grade PB1710A is a low density polyethylene with a melt index range between 0.5 and 2 dg/min (Cond E). All other polyethylene types and copolymers of the same melt index range can be used.
Polybutene-1 grade PB1710A meets FDA requirements in 21 CFR 177.1570 for food contact applications up to 100°C (212°F).
The value listed as Melt Flow Rate, ISO 1133, was tested in accordance with ISO 1133-1981E.
