Product Description

Polybutene-1 grade PB8340 resin is a random copolymer of butene-1 with low ethylene content. In blends with PE polymers, it forms a separate, but well-dispersed phase. Therefore, its primary use is as a minority blend component in the seal layer of easy-opening packaging films, produced by cast film extrusion. A typical PE blend partner for polybutene-1 grade PB8340 is any ethylene homo-or copolymer in the melt index range of 2.0 to 8.0 g/10min.
On the other hand, polybutene-1 is highly compatible with polypropylene due to its similar molecular structure, and it can be used to modify polypropylene sealing behaviour or mechanical properties such as impact.
Polybutene-1 crystallises slowly and is very shear sensitive in its flow behaviour.
During conversion, it is more sensitive to orientation than most polyolefins.

Polybutene-1 grade PB8340 meets FDA requirements in 21 CFR 177.1570 for food contact applications up to 100°C (212°F).
