IOTEK 3110 is a sodium ionomer which offers:
IOTEK 3110 is the resin of choice as repulsive layer in coextruded pallet shrink films. A typical layer thickness is 10 - 15 µm (0.39 - 0.59 mil). It can be coextruded directly with LDPE. For optimal adhesion to LDPE it is recommended to use an EVA with 5 to 10 % VA as interlayer.
IOTEK 3110 shows excellent sealing behavior even at low temperatures.
To improve processing, it is recommended to add a high level of natural silica as antiblock additive to the IOTEK 3110 layer in the form of a suitable masterbatch. PE based master-batches are not recommended as they can influence the sealing behavior of the film.
Please contact your ExxonMobil representative for recommended masterbatch references. The rheological characteristics and thermal stability of IOTEK 3110 offer good flow properties in coextrusion with a.o. LDPE and EVA.
Processing Conditions:
To minimize corrosion risk, all exposed metal surfaces in the extruder and die should be made from corrosion resistant metals or nickel/chrome plated.
IOTEK 3110 should be fed into the extruder after LDPE of a similar or higher melt index.
Machines should always be completely purged with LDPE or a suitable cleaning compound before shutdown.
Cation containing polymers pick up moisture from the atmosphere if exposed for prolonged periods. It is therefore recommended to reseal tightly the package after each production run.
In case of outdoor use, sodium ionomers can suffer from premature UV degradation. Zinc ionomers, like IOTEK 4200, are preferred or proper UV stabilization packages should be added.
