September 10, 2007 - In this week's search of the week video we highlight LDPE (low density polyethylene). LDPE is one of the most versatile polyolefins ever produced and currently there are more than 1,600 LDPE grades available (942 in North America followed by 795 in Europe and 648 in the Pacific Rim). LDPE was the first grade of polyethylene, produced in 1933 by Imperial Chemical Industries. It is widely used for manufacturing various containers, dispensing bottles, wash bottles, tubing, plastic bags for computer components, and various molded laboratory equipment. Its most common use is in plastic bags.
