November 26, 2007 - UL flame ratings group plastic materials into categories based on their flammability. UL 94 covers two types of testing: vertical burn and horizontal burn. Plastic materials are compounded with certain chemicals to reduce or eliminate its tendency to burn. For polyethylene and similar resins, chemicals such as antimony trioxide and chlorinated paraffins are useful. In this weeks search demonstration, we'll locate Polycarbonate materials with a Flame Rating of V-1 and a Notched Izod Impact greater than 10 ft-lb/in.
