Ticona Modifies POM Backbone …
Introduces New Hostaform® POM With
50% More Impact Resistance, 100% More Weldline Strength
Florence, KY, May 30, 2008 – Ticona Engineering Polymers unveiled a next generation Hostaform® acetal copolymer (POM) at Chinaplas 2008 that significantly improves impact resistance and weldline strength — without sacrificing other key properties — when compared with conventional POM copolymers. Ticona designed this POM copolymer to become the industry’s impact modified material of choice.
New Hostaform POM S 9364 offers a modified chemical structure to meet the increasing impact requirements for automotive window lifts, safety systems, fasteners and other demanding applications such as conveyor belts.

Ticona Alters Chemical Backbone Of POM
“Ticona chemists in Europe and North America worked on backbone modifications to develop this next generation impact modified POM,” said Wolfgang Wieth, POM product marketing manager - Europe. “Now the Hostaform POM family includes a grade that delivers value outside the existing performance box — a 50 percent improvement in impact resistance and 100 percent improvement in weldline strength — when compared with conventional impact modified copolymers.”

This step change in the intrinsic properties and chemical structure of Hostaform POM can help Ticona customers:
- Meet increasing impact requirements
- Optimize part designs
- Reduce part costs
“The application requirements of our customers are increasing all the time,” said Vinicius Mardegan, POM product marketing manager - Americas. “Hostaform POM
S 9364 is able to deliver performance in a host of applications, including fasteners that need excellent chemical resistance, industrial applications that need strong mechanical properties, windshield wiper end caps that need impact resistance and conveyor systems that not only need impact resistance, but also excellent friction/wear properties and dimensional stability.”
