Updated Resin Pricing Report

On October 2nd, we updated the Resin Pricing Report. Since launching the report on June 10, 2005 there have been 580 resin buyers who have submitted the actual price they've paid for plastic.

'Degradable' Plastics Usage Will Jump by 17% Annually. This forecast by Freedonia will take consumption of such biodegradable/compostable, photodegradable, and other degradable polymers to 500 million lb in 2010 in the U.S., having a value of US$610 million. This is up from just 121 million lb in 2000.

Conductive Thermoplastic "Optical Hoods" for Circuit Boards Replace Metal. Optical hoods are tiny, wedge-shaped shields manufactured by Extrusion Technologies, Inc., which deflect laser light from sensitive printed circuit board components.

Conductive "Noryl GTX’ for Powder Coating Will Eliminate Need for Conductive Primer. "Powder coating is a fast growing technology due to its environmental benefits, particularly the elimination of solvents and related compounds that are emitted into the air in conventional liquid paint," explains Christine Murner, ecomagination leader, GE Plastics. Powder coating also saves money by eliminating the waste of overspray.

New Color-Design Software Links CAD Drawings to OEM, Molder, and Ampacet. This ‘Kaleid-A-Vision’ tool especially targets plastics packaging designers. The collaborative 3-D color design software accelerates color selection process for plastic bottles. It interconnects all decision makers so real-time visualization can be used to apply colors, surface textures, labels and special effects to CAD drawings.
