Spire Ultra Polymers - More of What You're Looking For

A spire at the top of tall, prominent building is a strong visual symbol, proclaiming its presence for the whole world to see. Likewise, our SolvaSpire™ line of ultra polymers comprises a full range of ultra-performance materials that tower at the top of the plastics performance pyramid.

SolvaSpire ultra polymers are used today more than ever in demanding aerospace, electronics, health-care, and industrial applications. Components like bearings, bushings, and gears can last longer when made from Torlon, KetaSpire, and AvaSpire resins. That's because these resins combine exceptional wear resistance with high strength, thermal and dimensional stability, as well as chemical resistance in both dry and lubricated environments.

Discover More Performance

  • KetaSpire™ PEEK
One of the most chemically resistant plastics available and exhibits excellent strength, stiffness and fatigue resistance. It has an HDT up to 315°C with a continuous use temperature of 240°C.
  • AvaSpire™ modified PEEK
Novel PEEK-based formulations with unique advantages that bridge price and performance gaps
  • PrimoSpire™ SRP
The stiffest and strongest unreinforced thermoplastic available. It offers exceptional hardness and surface finish along with high compressive strength and a low isotropic CTE for exceptional dimensional stability even after steam sterilization.
  • EpiSpire™ HTS
EpiSpire™ high-temperature sulfone (HTS) has the highest heat resistance of any transparent thermoplastic. With a Tg of 265°C (509°F), it can provide the strength, stiffness and dimensional stability in high-temperature applications that have traditionally relied on filled, semi-crystalline polymers.
  • Torlon® PAI
Torlon® polyamide-imide (PAI) has the highest strength and stiffness of any thermoplastic up to 275°C (525°F). It has outstanding resistance to wear, creep, and chemicals- including strong acids and most organics-and is ideally suited for severe service environments.

How to Manage Plastics Stress
Look beyond datasheets to isochronous stree-strain curves and visco-plastic models in CAE programs. Use special designs to battle heat & stress.
.

Design engineers with considerable experience in metals may overlook the effect creep can have on the long-term performance of a plastic part, particularly when applications involve high operating temperatures. When a stress is applied over a long time, the observed strain is greater than that predicted by the short-term modulus.

Consider Thermal Stress

This additional strain is called creep. It occurs in metals, but is a much more significant design factor in plastics. It can generally be stated that the closer the applied stress is to the ultimate stress (or failure point), the more significant creep becomes for plastics.

New Material WebSeminar: Self-Reinforced Polyphenylenes
by Gregory Jack and Nick Malkovitch

A new generation of high-performance plastics is now commercially available as PrimoSpire™ SRP. These materials are amorphous, lightweight, flame-resistant polymers featuring incredible mechanical properties without fiber reinforcement. They can be melt processed by injection molding and extrusion. Parts can also be machined from stock shapes.
