Integrative Simulation Method
... and new Crash Resistant PA6 instrumental in design of a novel plastic part to protect pedestrians

BASF Integrative Simulation Method - Lower bumper stiffener (LBS)

Using BASF's Integrative Simulation method, BASF and Opel engineers designed a lower bumper stiffener (LBS) intended to reduce the risk of severe knee injuries when a car collides with a pedestrian. This method made it possible to model the LBS in detail and to describe its crash behavior with an unprecedented degree of precision while shortening the design cycle. The material selected for this part was Ultramid® B3WG6 CR, the fiberglass-reinforced polyamide 6 developed by BASF for crash-resistant parts.
