PEEK Replaces Costly Metals

Solvay PEEK

With the recent start-up of Solvay’s 500 ton/year world-class production unit, Solvay Advanced Polymers now delivers KetaSpire® PEEK and AvaSpire® modified PEEK – two ultra polymers that can give design engineers best-in-class chemical resistance, retention of mechanical properties up to 300°C, plus ease of processing.

KetaSpire PEEK meets the global need for lighter, stronger and better performing alternatives to metals and ceramics. Design engineers can specify PEEK for use in automotive, oil & gas, healthcare, aerospace, semiconductor and various industrial friction and wear components.

KetaSpire and AvaSpire resins are part of Solvay’s complete family of Spire® Ultra Polymers.

Webinar: Scientific Troubleshooting of Common Injection Molding Defects
Thu, Jan 29, 2009 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM EST

Scientific Troubleshooting of Common Injection Molding Defects

Join Andy Routsis, founder and president of A. Routsis Associates, as he presents a scientific troubleshooting framework for five of the most common injection molding defects.

Attendees will gain an understanding of how to effectively document the injection molding process and determine what changes occurred to cause the defect.  Andy's approach to troubleshooting is aimed at the cause, not the symptom, giving the attendee a solid understanding of what to do and most importantly, WHY to do it.

All attendees will also receive Process Documentation Worksheets to aid data collection and analysis.

First Plastic with Corn Flour Filler

MCG BioComposites

MCG BioComposites has introduced the first plastic material that makes use of corn flour as a filler material.  Their LLDPE rotational molding grade is produced using 20% corn cob flour. It is the first of a series of products intended to make use of the abundant biomass that is generated from the nation’s heartland. All of MCG’s bio composites are recyclable and will meet initial requirements of “Green” initiative and sustainability programs.

These materials exhibit some improvements in rigidity and in processing while in many cases reduce the overall cost of the finished part. They also allow OEM’s to possibly produce a USDA Certified Biobased Product and pursue “Biobased Markets Program” which stems from the 2008 Farm Bill.

MCG plans to develop PE and HDPE materials with 20% corn cob flour as well.
