Cold Jet to Introduce Precision Mold Cleaning & Product Finishing System at NPE 2009
Cold Jet will introduce a new precision mold cleaning and product finishing system at NPE 2009. The i³MicroClean system allows for increased cycles between preventative maintenance and reduced scrap rates. It removes surface residues from molds while eliminating hazardous chemicals, secondary waste, disassembly and downtime for even the most complex cleaning applications.
Cold Jet will be demonstrating the i³MicroClean system and you can schedule a demo to see mold cleaned or product deflashed by clicking here.

Enhancing the Beauty of Your Home
Traditional wood decks require regular maintenance, such as cleaning, sanding, and preservation of the wood. Composite decks fair better, but they are susceptible to staining and color fade over time. Genova Products’ Genovations™ Decking offers home owners the best solution: excellent stain and color-fade resistance, a low-gloss/glare surface finish, and a rich wood grain embossment, all making for a plank with an authentic wood appearance. BASF’s Luran® S ASA technology helped Genova achieve this higher level of performance in solid PVC decking.

Helping Save the Planet, One Chair at a Time
Herman Miller and BASF collaborate to make Aeron® Chair MBDC Silver
BASF’s Petra® PET from the Engineering Plastics product portfolio and Elastofoam® Flexible polyurethane integral skin are key ingredients in Herman Miller’s legendary Aeron Chair® that recently achieved McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC) Cradle to Cradle Silver Certification. MBDC and Herman Miller’s own Design for the Environment (DfE) protocols were used to design the Aeron Chair® to eliminate waste, and develop a product that is inherently healthy and safe. Design for the Environment (DfE) also emphasizes material chemistry and safety, product disassembly and recyclability of materials, and maximizing use of materials with recycled content.

High-Performance Plastic Ultrason® in Firefighter’s Helmets
The firefighter’s helmet and its visor – developed to meet particularly demanding requirements – have to resist a temperature of 250°C [482°F] for 30 minutes without being damaged. This protective gear even has to be able to withstand a temperature of 1000°C [1832°F] for ten seconds. Thanks to Ultrason E’s glass-transition temperature of 225°C [437°F], it lends itself quite well for this purpose. Along with its high temperature resistance, another important property of this material is its inherent fire safety (that is to say, fire safety without the addition of flame retardants).

Going Shopping with Renewable Materials
Chemically speaking, Ecoflex® biodegradable plastic is a petro-chemical-based polyester. And yet, thanks to its special molecular structure, it can be digested by microbes under precisely defined conditions. Ecoflex® biodegradable plastic is certified by the Biodegradable Products Institute in North American via ASTM D6400 and it is completely biodegradable according to European standard EN 13432. Ecovio® consists of Ecoflex®, but also largely of polylactic acid (PLA), which is obtained from corn, a renewable raw material. Whereas Ecoflex® makes the bag tear-resistant, waterproof and suitable for printing – giving it the properties of a classic plastic – Ecovio® contributes the renewable raw materials.
