Web-Based Materials Libraries Help Engineers Reduce Design Time And Eliminate Manual Searches For Materials Property Data SANTA ANA, Calif. - June 10, 2003 - MSC.Software Corp. (NYSE: MNS), the leading global provider of virtual product development tools including simulation software, services and systems, today announced the release of the MSC.Mvision IDES Plastics Prospector Databank. This is the first version of this plastics data to be offered with direct access from MSC.Software VPD tools. Developed in collaboration with IDES, Inc., this database of more than 43,000 plastics materials from nearly 400 global manufacturers provides MSC.Software customers with quick and easy access to the descriptions and properties of the many grades of plastics on the market. The IDES Plastics Prospector database, relied upon daily by manufacturers performing engineering design and analysis, can now be installed on customers' computers for access by all MSC.Mvision Materials Information System products, or can be accessed via the Internet from MSC.Software's hosted service MSC.DataMart (www.mscdatamart.com). MSC.Software provides its customers with the world's largest collection of technical materials information in a single electronic format - an up-to-date, comprehensive and easily searchable library for engineers needing materials information for product design and analysis. Powered by the MSC.Mvision materials database technology, engineers can query, compare, evaluate, and analyze a large number of materials alternatives quickly and efficiently. The ability to superimpose and interpolate from engineering curves, and to convert between different units systems, is not possible with hard-copy references - and can save hours or even days of work for each design exercise. Data can also be automatically formatted and exported from MSC.Mvision applications, or on-line from the MSC.DataMart, directly to computer-aided engineering applications such as MSC.Nastran, MSC.Patran, MSC.Fatigue, Ansys, Abaqus and Cosmos. "Streamlining material search processes has become increasingly important to help engineering organizations become more efficient," said Michael Kmetz, president for IDES. "By providing MSC.Software with comprehensive plastics data, we look forward to a lasting, productive relationship that helps their customers save time associated with material selection processes."
