IDES Launches The Plastics Web®

LARAMIE, Wyo. – August 9, 2005 – IDES Inc., the world’s leading plastic materials information management company, today announced the launch of The Plastics Web®, a website that enables industry professionals to access an enormous amount of information on polymer materials. “We believe high-quality plastics information that can be quickly accessed makes business faster and more efficient, and that companies of any size can realize these benefits,” said Mike Kmetz, president of IDES. “Whether it’s a design engineer selecting a polymer and estimating part costs or an injection molder referencing a processing chart for Polyamide, The Plastics Web® can improve productivity and influence critical business decisions that ultimately increase revenues and reduce costs.” The Plastics Web® is a three-phase project. During the first phase, IDES populated the website with rich polymer content organized in a simple format for users to quickly access the information. The second phase integrates the website with IDES’ Prospector database so that users can gain access to 59,149 grades from 488 resin suppliers. The third and final phase, expected to be announced this fall, will complete the initial release of The Plastics Web®. Currently, The Plastics Web® includes comprehensive directories of plastic materials, generic families, resin manufacturers and resin distributors. The site is populated with chemical resistance and plastics processing charts, along with the following tools; Molding Troubleshooter, Unit Converter, Material Cost Estimator, Library of Test Method Descriptions and Graphics, and a Glossary of Common Plastics Terms.
