June 15, 2011 - Laramie, WY (USA) - Back in 1986, IBM needed a way to reference technical information for the plastics they were using to develop their computer products. At the time, Mike Kmetz was studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wyoming and with the assistance of a graduate computer science student, they developed a searchable database for the plastics IBM was using in their products. The database included technical information for each plastic including property and processing data.
