Density is the mass of a material per unit volume.

This method utilizes ultrasound for determining the density of polyethylene. Inorganic materials present in a resin have little effect on ultrasonic density so this essentially measures the density of the base resin.

Density can be converted to specific gravity by dividing the density (in g/cm³) by 0.9975.
