Specific Gravity - ASTM D792

The ratio of material density (mass per unit volume) at 23°C to the density of gas-free distilled water at 23°C. Specific gravity can be converted to density (g/cm3) by multiplying specific gravity by 0.9975.

Two procedures are used for specific gravity testing.

Method Description Calculation
A Testing in water (apparent mass in air) / (apparent mass in water)
B Testing in liquids other than water (apparent mass in air) * (specific gravity of liquid) / (apparent mass in liquid)
