2012 Plastics Year in Review

The data from our plastics research statistics is in. Two years ago, we were in a a "period of extreme economic uncertainty" - two years later, and it feels like that description is still far too accurate. Yet, somehow, the plastics industry seems to be thriving.

So, what are product designers looking for exactly? We are going to try to answer that question through a data-driven glimpse of the changing world of plastic material selection. First, a couple quick notes about the data:

• The UL IDES audience may not be representative of the industry as a whole.
• Data is based on 380,000 registered users of our Prospector Plastics Database that accessed a total of 4,571,791 datasheets.
• Information is not included from the datasheet services that we provide for manufactures and distributors.
• I have two daughters actively involved in music, gymnastics and a production of the Wizard of Oz.
